Entrance into the Heart of
Ancient Christian Spirituality
The spirit of Christ’s teaching has been preserved in its original, pristine state within the living tradition of ancient Orthodoxy. An entirely “new” realm can unfold once the divine revelation of the living Christ is allowed to shine in full brilliance into the eyes of earnest seekers.
“Orthodox Christianity is clearly the tradition that was given us who are flesh and blood of the West—and it can be clearly seen in the Western Europe of the first ten centuries.… But it also happens that Orthodox Christianity is not merely a ‘tradition’ like any other, ‘a handing down’ of spiritual wisdom from the past; it is God’s Truth here and now—it gives us immediate contact with God such as no other tradition can do.”
—Fr. Seraphim Rose
For almost forty years, the St. Herman Press has strived to transmit the authentic savor of ancient Orthodox Christianity to the Western world. Dedicated to the humble Russian monk Herman who, in 1794, was one of the first to bring the Orthodox Gospel of Christ to North America, St. Herman Press seeks to combine monastic tradition with the spread of spiritual enlightenment.
Until recent times, Orthodox Christianity has been called “the world’s best kept secret.” During the past decade, however, there has been a burdgeoning interest in it among Western seekers. This is because, as our Western society lapses ever further into godlessness and moral anarchy, people are desperate to find an ancient, unadulterated Source of Divine Wisdom that does not change with the times.
The mission of St. Herman Press is to bring seekers into the mystical heart of original Christian experience—to transmit to them the authentic savor and spirit of Orthodoxy, which has remained unchanged since the time of the Apostles. Its publications pass on in a compelling, accessible way the faith, practice and worldview of the holy Orthodox men and women who have adorned the Church throughout the last twenty centuries, bringing the reader into their world, into their way of thinking, feeling, and perceiving reality.
The publications of St. Herman Press can help return God-loving readers to the spirit of otherworldly Christianity, wherein they can find Christ’s peace that passes all understanding. Dwelling in that stillness, they can remain unshaken amidst the troubles of the world, and be lights to guide others to the Heavenly Kingdom.
